It is rare for any architectural practices to take such care in detailed design. Murray John Architects are in a position to do this because we understand how things are made and have set aside time to study traditional and modern methods of construction. It is not possible to design freely without this knowledge.
The steps are formed of two strips of steel, zig-zagging in mid-air and spot-welded where they meet. The stairs are the structure: they sit four inches from the wall and four inches from a glass sheet.
