Stair halls in Victorian houses are often dark enclosures shrouded between the front back and middle rooms. Here we glazed the small washroom and the back room so as to let as much light in as possible and opened up the half landing to the ground floor so as to give the front of the house a view of the back garden and a sense of an extension of space.
These sorts of interventions intelligently bring the sunlight through the house and minimise the need for artificial lighting as well as opening up the living spaces both horizontally and vertically.
