Design for Aubourn
The question of how a house should look and be is a perpetual debate. Most of the new houses we have built have been in the country, possibly because our employers have empathy with our love of vernacular building - houses that appear to grow out of and built of local materials.
The simplest house plans are often the best, economical in envelope and plan form. There is no harm in clarity, innocence and simplicity, as a child would draw it, with a door in the middle and rooms at each side. Ancillary rooms are formed as lean-tos and are clearly distinct from the principal form.
