Houses
Oakley Street, Chelsea, Reconstruction
This is a typical London house - what estate agents call "top heavy" with many Victorian bedrooms above and relatively small living rooms at lower levels. This house had suffered from a number of poor conversions and so it was largely rebuilt - extended out and up.
The special characteristic is the way the house connects with the garden at ground, basement and first floor through the very transparent. The house has a classical quality but with very up to date technology. The kitchen is centred in the house leaving a formal dining room and a large roof-lit drawing room in the garden.
