Queen’s College wanted a new nave altar table for Hawksmoor’s Grade 1-listed chapel. The provost asked LASSCo to source a suitable example from salvage. None was available, so a new one was built specifically for the building in the Tuscan order. The oak table viewed in plan follows the “double ‘S’” facade of Borromini’s S Carlo alle Quattro Fontane in Rome. We were the sub-contracting designer/builder, and Murray oversaw the workshop activity.
