Gates at Lexden Terrace

Today, railings and gates are almost universally made by spot welding mild steel. The results are never as long-lasting or rust-resistant as the earlier wrought and jointed methods. It has taken us some years to acquire an understanding of ironworking techniques so we can design effective and accurate repairs and replacements to historic wrought-iron elements.

The gates of this early 19th century forecourt were lost and the posts damaged. We designed these replacements based on the sole remaining photograph of the original, and Paul Dennis, one of Britain's finest wrought ironworkers, made them in his workshop near Brecon in Wales in 2007.
