New Church in New Brunswick, Canada

The Irving family asked Murray John Architects to work with Simpson and Brown, an Edinburgh-based conservation practice, to build a new memorial chapel in Bouctouche. The Irvings had made their fortunes in the oil industry as immigrants, they wanted to celebrate their Scottish roots with a church built in local, Canadian materials but reminiscent of the kirk. We designed the roof, the tower and most of the interior fittings. The structure otherwise was mastered by John Sanders, the principal architect.
